Ginger Nut Chocolate Bar Recipe

Chocolate Tea-Time Treats

This Ginger Nut Chocolate Bar Recipe makes a delightful tea-time treat. It's a biscuit base made of crushed ginger nut biscuits then topped with a chocolate cream.

They are also known as Chocolate Ginger Nut Slices. Of course anything covered in chocolate is highly irresistable and these are a particularly good idea for kids party food.

An easy way to crush biscuits for this chocolate recipe is to put them in a strong plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin. A fun idea if you want to involve your kids in the baking process is to let them do the crushing (once the ginger nut biscuits are in the bag of course.) You can also place them (the biscuits, not the kids) in the food processor and process until finely crushed.

Ginger Nut Chocolate Bar Recipe

  • 200g ginger nut biscuits, finely crushed
  • 30ml walnuts, finely chopped
  • 80g butter, melted
  • 200g good-quality dark chocolate
  • 15ml butter
  • 80ml thick cream

How to Make Ginger Nut Chocolate Bars

  1. Line a 20cm x 20cm baking tin with greased baking paper.

  2. Put the crushed biscuits and chopped walnuts in a mixing bowl then stir in the butter. Press the biscuit mixture into the bottom of the pan.

  3. Over a double boiler melt the chocolate and butter. Stir in cream and then pour the chocolate mix over the biscuit base. Refrigerate for about 1 hour until the chocolate mix has set.

  4. Slice into squares in the pan or turn out onto a working surface and slice. Serve with fresh orange segments.

Chocolate Notes and Quotes
